Rain again likely on Wednesday, Thursday

The country’s middle and northern regions, including the capital, are likely to experience rain again on Wednesday and Thursday, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Monday.

“Rain is likely to occur in northern parts of the country on Wednesday and in the middle region on Thursday,” said Meteorologist Arif Hossain adding that a cold wave may sweep the country on Friday.

A mild cold wave is sweeping Rangpur, Kurigram, Rajshahi, Khulna, Pabna,Jashore and Kushtia, and it may continue and spread, the Met Office said.

Meanwhile, the lowest 8.8˚C temperature was recorded in Rajshahi on Monday morning.

The temperature in Tetulia was recorded at 5 ˚C on December 30 and 4.5 ˚C on December 29, which was the lowest in this season.

Cold Patients   

The data the government released on Monday showed that 5,527 people were affected by cold-related diseases across the country in the last 24 hours.

The data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) control room showed that 777 of the patients received treatment for acute respiratory infection.

Another 1,926 were treated for diarrhoea, and 2,824 for other diseases, including jaundice, inflammation in the eye, skin diseases, and fever.

Fifty-one deaths were reported across the country between November 1 and January 4 due to cold-related diseases.
