5 war crimes suspects held in Khulna

Police in separate drives arrested five suspected war crimes criminals from their houses in Batiaghata upazila on Thursday night.

The arrestees were identified as Ashraf Sheikh, son of Afsar Ali of Gaoghara village, Amzad Hossain, son of Emdad Ali of Charkhali village, Atier Sheikh, son of Hashem Sheikh of Sundarmohal village, Mottasen Billah, son of Rahmat Ullah of Kismat Laxmikhola village and Kamaluddin Boldar, son of Jabir Uddin Boldar of Biret village in the upazila.

Enamul Haq, officer-in-charge (OC) of Batiaghata police station, said police conducted separate drives in the upazila at night and arrested the five people in separate cases filed against them. Later, they were shown arrested in war crimes cases for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War, the OC said.
