HC rejects Khaleda's plea for reinvestigating Zia Orphanage Trust graft case

The High Court (HC) today rejected a petition of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for reinvestigating a part of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against her and five others.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim passed the order after holding hearing on the matter yesterday.

Khaleda Zia in her petition, had pleaded for reinvestigation about the source of the money, which was allegedly embezzled by six including Khaleda.

Abdur Rezak Khan aided by Zakir Hossain Bhuiyan moved the petition for Khaleda, while advocate Khurshid Alam Khan stood for complainant Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Accepting a plea of the BNP chief, the same High Court bench on March 8 transferred the case to Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court and ordered it to complete the trial within 60 days.

The BNP chief filed the petition on February 8, expressing no confidence on the Special Judge Court-3, which was holding the trial of the case alongside another graft case against Khaleda.

The ACC on July 3, 2008, filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Ramna police station, accusing Khaleda, her son Tarique Rahman and four others for embezzlement of over Taka 2.10 crore brought from abroad and meant to be spent for the orphans.
