The Supreme Court today included the review petitions of convicted war criminal Delawar Hossain Sayedee and the government against its verdict in the war crimes case.

The review pleas have come up in serial number 147 in the four-member bench of the Appellate Divison, headed by chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.

Assistant Attorney General Bashir Ahmed told The Daily Star that the Supreme Court may not reach to item number 147 today, and it may reach the serial by Thursday.

Now after 14 months, the apex court will start hearing on the review petitions against its verdict that commuted the death sentence for Sayedee to imprisonment until death.

The International Crimes Tribunal on February 28, 2014 sentenced Jamaat-e-Islami leader Sayedee to death in one charge, even though it had found him guilty on eight charges.

After holding hearing on two appeals filed by Sayedee and the government, on September 17, 2014, the apex court delivered a short order commuting Sayedee’s death sentence.

On January 12 last year, the government filed a review petition with the SC, seeking death penalty for Sayedee for his war crimes during the Liberation War.

On January 17 last year, Sayedee filed a plea seeking review of SC verdict. In the petition he sought acquittal in all the charges in which found guilty by the SC.
