The Supreme Court (SC) today upheld its earlier verdict asking the government to stop functioning of the poultry and fish feed factories that are using tannery waste in Hazaribagh area of Dhaka.

The apex court dismissed a petition filed by the owners of the poultry and fish feed factories seeking restoration of an appeal which was dismissed by this court on December 7 last year.

In December last year, the appeal was filed with the apex court challenging the HC verdict of July 21, 2011 following a writ petition.

A four-member bench of Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after holding hearing on the petition.

The petitioner's counsel Manzill Murshid told The Daily Star that the poultry and poultry feed factories have already been removed from Hazaribag area following the HC order.

Earlier on July 21, 2011, the HC directed the authorities to stop operation of the poultry and fish feed factories at Hazaribagh.
