BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday expressed confidence that the 'evil force' can be ousted from power if the democratic forces are united.

He said this referring to the people's spontaneity he witnessed when he visited Netrokona recently.

"That made me believe that the evil force can no longer stay in power if we unite," the BNP leader told a function at Diploma Engineers Institution.
It was organised, Sylhet Division Solidarity Conference, to mark five years of disappearance of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader M Ilias Ali.

Mirza Fakhrul said law enforcement personnel picked up M Ilias Ali an enforced disappearance which was followed by abduction of around 500 leaders and workes of the BNP.

He said his party could have taken a stronger stand on the issue of Ilias Ali by reporting it to international organisations.

BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas pointed out that before disapperance of Ilias Ali, about 150 leaders were said to have been listed. "Since then, these 150 leaders of BNP never sat together. And it is the success of those who abducted Ilias Ali," he said.

Referring to the prime minister's India visit, Mirza Fakhrul said she could have said Dhaka would not sign any deal unless a Teesta deal is struck.

"This govenment has no legitimacy and no capacity to bargain," the BNP leader added.
