12 hurt in BCL infighting at DU hall

At least 12 students were injured in a clash between two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Salimullah Muslim Hall of Dhaka University on Thursday night.

Witnesses said the clash ensued around 11:50pm following an altercation between the supporters of hall unit BCL president Tahsan Ahmed Rasel and its general secretary Mehedi Hassan Tapash over occupying a seat in a room of the dormitory.

At one stage, both the groups, equipped with rods, sticks and local weapons, attacked each other, leaving 12 injured from the two sides.

On information, acting DU Proctor M Amzad Ali and DU BCL President Abid Al Hassan rushed in and brought the situation under control.

Arifur Rahman and Raihan Kabir, fourth year students of Education and Science Institute and Music Department respectively, were first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and later shifted to Dhaka University Medical Centre.
