BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has thrown challenge to the ruling Awami League (AL) for ensuring a free and fair election without police influence.

He made the remark to reporters after placing floral wreath at BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s tomb in city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar accompanied by newly formed leaders of Dhaka Mahanagar BNP on Friday morning (April 28).

Earlier AL general secretary Obaidul Quader said that people of Bangladesh can predict BNP’s position in the next general election since they don’t have the ability to mobilize mass people for a movement.

In response, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Election is the best way to establish party popularity. To find out which party is more popular or who gets more votes, I dare AL to ensure a free and fair election without police influence.”

BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas, joint GS Habib-un-nabi Khan Sohel and BNP chief’s advisor Joynul Abedin Farukh among others were also present at the time.
