AL-BNP clash injures 7 in Jessore

At least seven people were injured in a clash between the local leaders and activists of Awami League and BNP, over derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister in Keshabpur upazila.

The incident took place at Pazia Bazar area in the upazila at around 9:30 pm Sunday (May 14).

The injured were—Intaj Ali, BNP president for Pazia union unit, Abu Sayeed Lavlu, convener of the union unit of Jubo League, a wing of the ruling party, Shahidul Islam, Sumon Halder, Mohammed Rafiq, Jahurul Haq--Jubo League activists and an unidentified leader of Jubo Dal, a wing of BNP.  

Pazia union Jubo League organizational secretary Mehedi Hasan told Banglanews that three BNP leaders—Abu Bakar, Mokbul Hossain Mukul and Intaj Gazi were delivering offensive comments against Prime Minister while they were addressing a meeting at the night.

They became infuriated and engaged in a clash with the leaders and activists of Jubo League as they were asked to refrain from speaking thus, leaving 5 Jubo League activists injured, said Mehedi.

Jessore district unit BNP vice-president Abu Bakar told Banglanews that some 20-25 men led by Jubo League leader Lavlu attacked the BNP meeting abruptly, leaving 2 BNP leaders including Intaj injured.

Contacted, Keshabpur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Shahidul Islam could not be reached over mobile phone.
