Law enforcers have cordoned off two houses of suspected “Neo JMB” members in Jhenidah Sadar upazila hours after they arrested the duo.

Arrestee Selim Hossain, 35, and Pranto Hossain, 17, are the elder brother and a cousin of Tuhin, a suspected militant who was killed in a police operation last week.

Tuhin was killed in a suicide belt explosion on May 8 operation in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenidah. In the Maheshpur operation, a police officer “narrowly escaped” from a suicide attacker at a “Neo JMB” hideout as two suspected militants including Tuhin were killed and two policemen wounded.

Selim and Pranto were arrested in the wee hours of today, our Jhenidah correspondent reports quoting Rapid Action Battalion (Rab).

Selim, son of Attab Uddin, and Pranto, son of Motiar Rahman, are the owners of the houses located at Chuadanga village, Khandakar Rafikul Islam, Rab-6 commander in Khulna, told journalists.

The joint forcers recovered two live suicide vests and four crude bombs from separate places at the village in the afternoon, based on the information provided by the arrestees.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-6 and local police cordoned off the area at 1:00am. Major Monir Ahmed of the elite force told the correspondent.

The elite force suspected that there are people inside the brick-built houses and the team may recover bomb, grenades and other explosives from there.

Distance between the two spots is around 60 feet, Major Monir Said.

Rab will start an operation after a bomb disposal unit from Khulna reaches the spot, said Abul Kalam Azad, assistant superintendent of Rab.
