Transport strike in Sylhet called off

An indefinite transport strike, which was enforced by Sylhet Road Transport Workers’ Union to press home their five-point demand, was called off on Monday following a fruitful meeting with the administration.

Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Dr Nazmun Ara Khanam, Deputy Inspector General of Sylhet police Kamrul Ahsan, Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar, Additional Police Commissioner Rukan Uddin, Sylhet Transport Workers’ Union President Selim Ahmed Falik, Golapganj Municipality Mayor Sirajul Jabbar Chowdhury, Sylhet Truck Workers’ Union President Abdus Salam, Sylhet Road Transport Workers’ Federation General Secretary Sajib Ali were present at the meeting, among others.

On Sunday morning, Sylhet Transport Workers’ Union enforced the strike for indefinite period across the division, triggering acute sufferings to the commuters.

Selim Ahmed Falik, president of Transport Workers’ Union, earlier said that they called the strike raising demand for withdrawal of all cases filed against their transport workers, cancellation of the registration of trade union of the president of Shramik League, a ban on motor-cycle riding on Sylhet-Companiganj route immediately.
