Govt plans for hassle-free Eid trip this year

With better traffic management and beforehand preparation, journey for home-goers this Eid will be smooth, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader hoped today.

“This year we have started Eid preparation before Ramadan. We have finalised our plans taking into account the experience of previous years,” Quader said in a view exchange meeting.

Monitoring teams are already working in close cooperation and three vigilance teams, formed with officials from different departments of the ministry, will work in Saidabad, Gabtoli and Mohakhali bus terminals to take steps against extra fare, overloading and sufferings, he said.

Trucks, lorry, and covered vans will not be allowed to ply on the roads three days before the Eid. However, those transporting foods, essentials, drug, garments products and fuel will remain out of purview.

Ansar men will be deployed to help traffic management in different key points across exit points of Dhaka city.

The minister said, orders have already been given to evict makeshift kitchen markets and complete repairing all highways seven days before Eid. Besides, mobile court will run operation to control unfit and outdated vehicles in highways and unauthorised parking in the city, he added.

BRTA will open a control room for traffic management and coordination with all stakeholders to ensure safe and hassle-free journey and the control will remain open for seven days starting from four days before Eid.

He said they have requested the energy ministry to keep all CNG station open for 24-hours for 14 days a week before Eid and requested the owners of the garments authorities to close and open their factories on different dates.

Draft rules for uber formulated

The minister said draft rules for Uber has already been prepared and will be finalised after proper scrutiny. He did not give details of the draft.

Uber, a popular taxi-hailing mobile application, was launched in Dhaka in November last year promising to bring a change in the commuting experience in the busy capital and have already gained popularity. End
