Vehicular movement of the district with other parts of the country remained suspended for five hours from Saturday morning as the transport workers blocked the two entrance points of the district town protesting the arrest of their fellow workers by police.

The workers of District Bus Minibus Workers’ Union put up barricade on Jamalpur-Tangail road near the central bus terminal area and ferry ghat point on Jamalpur Mymensingh road by placing buses around 6 am, disrupting road communication between the district and other parts of the country.

Mahbub Alam Babla, president of the union, said police arrested 22 people including its several leaders and workers while they were gambling at cards in the town’s old bus stand area on Friday midnight.
