People of some low-lying areas of the port city suffered due to waterlogging triggered by the cyclonic storm ‘Mora’ for the second consecutive day on Thursday.

Though stranded water was drained out gradually from other areas, people of Agrabad, Halishahar and CDA residential areas also remained marooned on Thursday.

The logged water disrupted activities at the roadside shops, hospitals and other business establishments in the areas.

Meanwhile, Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) authorities claimed that the waterlogging in Halishahar, Agrabad and CDA residential area is caused by a temporary embankment developed by Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) at the mouth of Moheshkhal.

CCC, CPA, and Water Development Authority held a joint meeting with CCC Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin in the chair on this issue at the CCC auditorium on Thursday.

Contacted, Uttar Modhym Halishahar Ward Councillor Mohammad Shafiul Alam, who was present at the meeting, told the daily sun that the CPA authorities was asked to demolish the temporary embankment from the mouth of Moheshkhal immediately.

Besides, the CPA authorities was also asked to set up a sluice gate at the canal mouth so that water flow isn’t interrupted, said councillor of the ward, which remained marooned for last two days.
