Teen dies as fire guts 100 shops in Comilla

A teenager was died in a fire that gutted around 100 shops of a market in Burichong upazila of Comilla in the wee hours of today.

Victim Nazmul Hossain Khokon, 12, son of Tara Mia of Gopalnagar Brahmanpara, was a staff of a cloth store in the market at Kongshonagar bazaar.

He was locked inside the shop and could not come out when the fire broke out, said Monoz Kumar, officer-in-charge of Burichong Police Station.

Four units of firefighters took four hours to tame the fire that started at a cloth store of the market and later spread to the Kongshonagar bazar and gutted about 100 shops including hardware stores, jewellery shops, cloth stores and varieties stores, the OC added.

Local lawmaker and former law minister Abdul Matin Khasru and high officials of the district administration visited the place.
