Modi expresses shock at death in landslide

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed shock over the loss of lives in Bangladesh due to landslides and offered to assist the country in local search and rescue efforts.

“Saddened by the loss of lives in Bangladesh due to landslides. My thoughts are with the families of the deceased and prayers with the injured," Modi said in a statement.

Extending India’s solidarity with Bangladesh, the Indian prime minister said, "India stands shoulder to shoulder with Bangladesh. We stand ready to support local search and rescue efforts if required.”

At least 130 people, including four army men, died in rain-induced landslides in the hilly areas of Chittagong, Rangamati and Bandarban yesterday.
