Missing army man’s body recovered

The body of army member Azizur Rahman, who went missing during landslide in Rangamati, was recovered on Thursday.

Members of Army and Fire Service rescued him at 11am from 50 feet deep soil at Manikchari.

He went missing as a chunk of mud collapsed on him while he was rescuing landslide traped people on Tuesday.

He served in Manikchari army region. He hailed from Madaripur.

Of the same day, four army personnel, including 2 officials also were killed during the rescue operation.

The four deceased army personnel were identified as Major Mohammad Mahfuzul Haque of Manikganj district, Captain Tanvir Salam Shanto of Patuakhali district, Corporal Azizul Haq of Mymensingh district and Sepoy Shaheen Alam of Bogra district.

Ten more army personnel were also injured in the incident. Of them, four army personnel are in critical condition. They have been admitted to Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

The death toll from massive landslides in six hill districts of the country jumped to 149 since Tuesday.

Members of the Army, Fire Service and Civil Defence, police and other organisations are carrying out rescue operations in Rangamati for the third day.
