Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader has urged people not to travel on the rooftops of vehicles.
Regretting the Rangpur road crash that killed at least 16 truck-passengers, the minister made the call while talking to newsmen, on the sidelines of inspecting the traffic movement on highways at Chandra of Gazipur on Saturday.
Quader said a group of low-income people had been tryng to save money by going home on a cement-laden truck.
The minister said the situation of vehicular movement has remained normal across the country, a claim contrary to the media reports that homebound passengers were seriously suffering from either huge tailbacks or the snail pace of traffic on both of the country’s two major highways - Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Chittagong.
