Relief activities to continue in flood-hit areas: Maya

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya today said the government's relief activities would continue until the sufferings of flood affected people mitigate.

"The government will always stay beside the flood affected people ... None will die because of want of food," he said while addressing a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner (DC) office here.

Hasibur Rahman, MP, Amzad Hossain Milon, MP, Selina Begum Shwapna, MP, Secretary of the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry Shah Alam, Department of Disaster Management Director General Riaz Uddin and Awami League district unit President and Zila Parishad Chairman Abdul Latif Biswas, among others, were present.

Maya asked the district administration officials to take up plans for rehabilitating the flood affected people after receding of flood water.

He urged the NGO officials not to realize loan installments until next harvest.

"We should remain alert against the outbreak of diarrhea and other waterborne diseases," Maya said, adding the medical teams would have to visit every shelter center daily.

The government has already allocated 650 tons of rice, Taka 27 lakh, 4,000 dry food packets and 500 bundles of tins for the flood affected people in Sirajaganj district, officials said.
