The High Court issued a rule on two government officials including health secretary asking them to show cause as to why they shall not be punished for contempt of court for violating its order.

A division bench comprising Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan passed the order on Sunday, following a petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).

Health secretary Sirazul Haque and senior assistant secretary Maksuda Yasmin are facing the contempt rule.

They will have to reply to the rule within two weeks.

On April 3, the High Court banned production and sale of antibiotic (penicillin and cephalosporin-group) and anti-cancer medicines of 28 drug companies.

The court also directed the drug administration to form a five-member expert committee within 15 days of getting certified copy of the order to monitor whether drug companies follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) set by the World Health Organisation (WHO) or not.

The GMP ensures quality standard for production and sale of all medical products. The HC required a representative from WHO to be included in the committee.

On June 18, the DG health formed a four-member expect committee without including any representative of WHO in it violating the court's order.
