Ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said the BNP will continue to raise various allegations against the election commission unless it assures the party of power.

Also the road transport and bridges minister, Quader said the ruling AL would criticise the election commission whenever it would go beyond the constitutional provision.

The minister was talking to newsmen while inspecting the operation of the BRTA’s mobile court in Signboard area of Narayanganj.

Quader said the AL wants to go to power again with the mandate of the people.

“The election commission cannot take the Awami League to power. It has no authority to bring any political party to power. So, there is no basis of the BNP’s allegations [against the EC].”

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Tuesday said the election commission’s roadmap for the 11th parliamentary polls has ignored the nation’s aspirations and alleged the roadmap is a blueprint to bring the AL to power again.

He alleged that the BNP is trying to make the EC controversial and thus to thwart the election process by raising various allegations.

“Neither the election commission nor any foreign force will be able to put us in power. It’s the people of Bangladesh who will rather put us in power. And we have the faith in the people,” said Quader.
