Padma Bridge to play vital role in country's economy: Quader

Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader in Khulna on Monday said the Padma bridge would contribute significantly to economic progress of the country.

"Construction of the Padma Bridge is on full swing and it might be opened for traffic by October 2018," he hoped.

He was addressing a press briefing after holding meeting with Road and Highways officials of Khulna division at the conference room of Khulna Circuit House.

The government has already constructed and repaired 21,000 kilometers of roads he said, adding ECNEC recently approved TK 5,500 crore for construction of ten regional roads.

The Minister ordered local road and highway officials to plant saplings along the Highways for making those more greenery.

Quader also asked the law enforcement agencies to take stern action against drug traders. He said drug traders are enemies of the country and they would be brought to justice whatever their political affiliation. 

About movement of battery-run easy bikes on highways, he said "We have already banned movement of battery-run easy bikes and shallow engine run vehicles on 22 Highways." He added steps would be taken against those easy bike drivers who ignore the banning.
