Barisal, Barguna DCs withdrawn

Deputy commissioners of Barisal and Barguna Gazi M Saifuzzaman and Bashirul Alam have been withdrawn from their respective posts today.

Senior Secretary of public administration ministry M Mozammel Haque Khan confirmed it.

The withdrawal comes five days after a Barisal magistrate refused to give bail to Tariq Salman, upazila nirbahi officer of Barguna Sadar, in a case filed for allegedly distorting the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, painted by a child, on an invitation card.

However, two hours later he was granted bail when he produced the papers. During the period, the officer was in the custody of the court.

Obaidullah Saju, the religious affairs secretary of Barisal district and president of Barisal Lawyers' Association, filed the Tk 5 crore defamation case last month.

The case triggered a social media outcry with many praising the UNO's move of placing Bangabandhu's portrait on the invitation card.
