Couple found murdered in Tangail house

Police found a couple dead, tied to a sack of bricks, at the bottom of a drainage well beside their house in Tangail Sadar upazila today.

The victims were Anil Kumar Das, 70, a retired teacher of Rasulpur High School, and his wife Kalpana Rani Das, 55.

The couple lived alone in the ground floor of a three-storey under-construction building in Rasulpur village. They have a son, Anil Kumar Das, a banker in Dhaka, and a daughter, who lives abroad.

Construction workers went to the house this morning and found the house empty. They informed locals and police, said Gobinda Chandra Pal, additional superintendent of Tangail police.

The bodies were recovered around 12:00noon, the ASP said. The bodies were found tied to a sack of bricks, what has led to belief that they were strangled to death and drowned.

The bodies were kept at the house and no case was filed in connection with the murder till filing the report around 2:30pm.
