‘Drug peddler’ killed in Brahmanbaria ‘gunfight’

An alleged drug peddler was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and police in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria early today.

The deceased was identified as Yousuf Mia, 28, son of Nurul Islam of Maiskhar village of the upazila.

On information, a team of police conducted a drive in at Kalamuria area around 2:30am, said Mohiuddin Ahmmed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kasba Police Station.

Sensing presence of the police, Yousuf along with his associates fired at the law enforcers. In retaliation, police also fired gun shots at them, ensuing the gunfight, he also said.

Later, police recovered Yousuf’s body and sent it to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police also recovered 135 kilogrammes of cannabis, a pipe gun and two rounds of cartridges from the spot.

Three police officials received minor injuries in the incident, the OC added.
