PM for boosting trade with Thailand

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday underscored the need for further boosting trade and business between Bangladesh and Thailand for mutual benefits of the two countries.

"There is a huge potentiality for further raising trade and business between the two countries," she said.

The prime minister made the remarks when Chief of Defence Forces of Royal Thai Armed Forces General Surapong Suwana-adth called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban here.

After the meeting, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters.

The prime minister said the two countries could share their experiences for promoting tourism and praised the health sector development in Thailand.

General Surapong Suwana-adth highly praised Bangladesh's socioeconomic development under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He also lauded the contributions of Bangladeshi peacekeepers to maintaining peace in different parts of the world.

The Thai defence forces chief appreciated construction of cyclone shelters in coastal areas of Bangladesh.

In this connection, the prime minister said Bangabandhu first constructed such multipurpose cyclone shelters to save the coastal people from cyclone and tidal surge.

PM's International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi, Principal Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Military Secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Joynul Abedin and PSO of Armed Forces Division Lt Gen Mahfuzur Rahman were present on the occasion.
