2 died, 5 injured in Panchagarh lightning strikes

At least two people were died and five others injured after lightning strikes in Sadar and Boda upazilas of Panchagarh district.

Boda upazila’s Benghari union parishad (UP) chairman Abul Kalam said thunderbolt struck Nasir Ullah, 42, son of Abdul Kader, injuring him seriously while working at a paddy field on Thursday.

Later, he was taken to Panchagarh Adhunik Sadar Hospital where physician declared him dead.

In Sadar upazila, a certain Sohel Rana, 19, was died in a lighting strike on the spot, said UP chairman of the upazila Zahedul Haque.

Also, four women and a man were injured in separate lighting strikes in Sadar upazila’s Birpara and Chanpara areas.

The injured Foyjan Begum, 60, Rabeya Khatun, 40, Morzina Khatun, 14, Amina Khatun and Mustafizur Rahman were treated at the Sadar hospital. 

The hospital physician, Towhidur Rahman, said six people were taken to the hospital. One of them succumbed to his injuries.
