The High Court today directed the government to take necessary steps in 45 hours to stop the use of hydraulic horns in vehicles in Dhaka city to prevent sound pollution.

The court asked the government to confiscate the instruments used for hydraulic horns in the next seven days.

It also directed the government to enforce restrictions on imports of hydraulic horns and to seize the vehicles with the horn after August 27.

The HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order after hearing a petition filed by rights organisation Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.

The rights organisation submitted the petition challenging the legality of hydraulic horn use and seeking necessary orders to stop sound pollution in Dhaka city.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police last Wednesday destroyed around 10,000 hydraulic horns on Minto Road in Dhaka.
