11 boats capsize in Naaf estuary; 5 bodies recovered

Bodies of five Rohingyas were recovered as scores went missing after 11 boats carrying Rohingyas capsized at the estuary of Naaf river in Badarmokam area of Teknaf early Wednesday morning.

Sabrang Union Parishad (UP) member Fazlul Haque said small boats carrying Rohingyas overturned in the area while entering Bangladesh from the Myanmar.

Many managed to swim to shore after the boat capsizes, but almost 100 are still feared missing, he added.

Teknaf model police station officer in-charge M Mainuddin Khan said a police team is rushing to the spot after locals informed them about the incident.
