LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain yesterday asked authorities concerned of city corporations and municipalities to strengthen their activities for increasing their revenues.

"The ministry will maintain strict policy in financial allocation if respective organisations fail to realise revenues adequately," he said while handing over heavy vehicles and equipment, procured from Belarus, among mayors of three city corporations and 11 municipalities here.

Mayor of Dhaka City Corporation (north), Anisul Haq and LGED Chief Engineer Shyama Parashd Adhikari, among others, were present at the function with LGRD Secretary Abdul Maleq in the chair.

A total of 143 vehicles were handed over to the respective authorities and rest of the city corporations and municipalities will get vehicles and equipment in phases later.

During Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Belarus visit in 2013, an agreement was signed between two governments for providing modern vehicles and equipment to local government bodies of Bangladesh aimed at making clean and sustainable townships.

As a part of the agreement, a total of 1,395 different types of heavy vehicles and equipment like loader, roller and excavators have been procured from Belarus.

A factory named AMKODOR Industrial Zone Limited has been set up at Khutir Para in Narsingdi for maintenance of the procured vehicles and equipment.
