Maritime ports asked to continue cautionary signal 3

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to continue hoisting local cautionary signal number 3 as a deep convection is taking place over the Bay of Bengal. 

"The low, intensified into a land depression and was centred at 9 am today over Gangetic West Bengal and moved towards Bangladesh and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, is likely to intensify and move to a northwesterly direction further inland," Abdur Rahman, a meteorologist at Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), told BSS this afternoon. 

Under the influence of low, deep convection is continuing over North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, Rahim said, adding that squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh. 

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with carefulness till further notice.

"In association with rain or thundershowers temporary south or south- easterly squalls speeding 60-80 kph is likely to occur over the regions of Faridpur, Madaripur, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong and Cox's Bazar wherein river ports should hoist riverine warning signal number 2 by 6 pm today," said a warning message issued by BMD office today. 

Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary south or south- easterly gusty or squally wind speeding 45-60 kph is likely to occur elsewhere over the country wherein river ports should hoist cautionary signal number one, the message added. 

Besides, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at most places over Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions and at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country in the next 24 hours as of 9 am tomorrow, said a press release.

Day temperature may fall by 1-2 degree celsius and night temperature may fall slightly over the country.

Maximum temperature on Sunday was recorded 34.5 degree celsius at Dimla in Rangpur division and today's minimum temperature 23.4 degree celsius at Rangamati in Chittagong division.

Country's highest rainfall in last twenty-four hours ending at 6 am today was recorded 83 millimeters (mm) at Khepupara in Barisal division.

The sun sets at 5:38 pm today and rises at 5:54 am tomorrow in Dhaka.
