3, 16, 431 children to feed Vitamin A capsule in Jamalpur

Health Department will feed vitamin A capsule to 3, 16, 431 children in the district on July 16 on the National vitamin A plus campaign. Health Department disclosed the target to newsmen at Jamalpur General Hospital today.

Civil Surgeon, Dr. Moshaerul Islam presided over the orientation programme. 

He said, each of 34,227 children aged from 6 month to 11 months will be administered a one lakh IU (International Unit) blue coloured vitamin A capsule while each of the 2, 82, 204 children aged from 12 months to 59 months will be fed a two lakh IU red coloured vitamin A capsule on the day in the district. 

A total of 1, 789 centers have been set up in the district to make the campaign a success. Among the total centers, 1,656 are permanent centers, 99 are additional centers, 8 are temporary centers and 26 are mobile centers. 

Civil Surgeon said Vitamin A one is the most important micronutrients for child survival, growth and vision. 

Health Department launches Vitamin A plus campaign two times in a year. This year the first Vitamin A plus campaign is being held on July 16 and the second will be held in next December in the district, he added.

Deputy Civil Surgeon, Dr. Shahin Sultana, Junior Health Education Officer, Arifur Rahman, District Nutrition Support Officer, UNICEF, Md. Shah Alam and District Coordinator, Micronutrient Initiative, Mahfuza Begum Ruma also spoke in the orientation programme. 

Local journalists and representatives of health department were present at that time.
