Covid-19 cases reach 51,744 in Rangpur division

The total number of Covid-19 positive cases reached 51,744 with 186 afresh on Saturday in all eight districts of the division.

Health officials said eight more patients also died during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today in the division where the overall Covid-19 situation continues showing an improving trend in recent days.

“The 186 new Covid-19 cases were reported after testing 1,227 samples of Rangpur division with the positivity rate of 15.16 percent on Saturday,” Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of the patients now stands at 11,765 in Rangpur, 3,364 in Panchagarh, 4,217 in Nilphamari, 2,586 in Lalmonirhat, 4,403 in Kurigram, 6,963 in Thakurgaon, 13,940 in Dinajpur and 4,506 in Gaibandha of the division.

“Since the beginning of the outbreak of Covid-19, a total of 2,46,489 collected samples were tested till Saturday, and of them, 51,744 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 20.99 percent in the division,” Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said the number of fatalities reached 1,151 as eight new deaths were reported from five districts out of eight in the division on Saturday.   

The district-wise break up of the 1,151 fatalities stands at 270 in Rangpur, 673 in Panchagarh, 81 in Nilphamari, 59 in Lalmonirhat, 64 in Kurigram, 231 in Thakurgaon, 313 in Dinajpur and 60 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.22 percent in the division,” Dr Islam said.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients climbed to 44,138 with recovery of 321 more persons on Saturday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 85.30 percent.

The 44,138 recovered patients include 8,828 of Rangpur, 2,677 of Panchagarh, 3,667 of Nilphamari, 2,242 of Lalmonirhat, 3,820 of Kurigram, 5,828 of Thakurgaon, 13,387 of Dinajpur and 3,689 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Among the 51,744 patients, 309 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 26 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 44,138 patients and 1,151 deaths while 6,354 are remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 16,30,145, and among them, 7,34,763 got the second dose of the jab till Saturday in the division,” Dr Islam added.  

Talking to BSS, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu expressed cautious satisfaction over the improving trend of the overall Covid-19 situation.

He especially called upon common people to properly abide by the health directives, hygiene rules, wear masks and maintain physical distance to further contain spread of the Covid-19 virus in Rangpur division.
