Govt to groom 10,000 info leaders at the grassroots

The government plans to make 10,000 info leaders through enhancing capacity of entrepreneurs of 4,550 Union Digital Centers (UDCs) in writing and editing reports and features to be disseminated to the media.

Disclosing this at a Meet-the-Press function at the auditorium of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) here, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak today said the UDC entrepreneurs will also get training on outsourcing and e-commerce to be launched in 64 districts of the country under a programme titled: Trinomuler Tathyajanala of ICT Division so that they could develop the UDC as mini Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Center.

Jointly organized by Trinomuler Tathyajanala (TTJ) and Tathyaseba Barta Sangstha (TSB,) the function was addressed by Chief Information Commissioner Professor Dr. Golam Rahman, ICT Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder and Programme Director of Access to Information (A2I) and Director General of Prime Minister's Office Kabir Bin Anwar.

Executive Editor of TSB Dr. Aliur Rahman presented a keynote paper highlighting the aims and objectives of the TTJ programme.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak said the introduction of dynamic websites in all the 4,550 Union Parishad has created an opportunity for free flow of information of grassroots in all spheres of state and society. 

After getting training the UDC entrepreneurs will make reports and features on the livelihood of people and development issues at local level and disseminate those to different media including websites ensuring free flow of information, he said. 

Palak said TTJ website will contain a Tathyajog site, a user generated content site to be developed making the UDC entrepreneurs and government officials as subscribers for sharing and rushing information, contents, photos and videos on it. The reports and features of the UDC entrepreneurs from Tathyajog site will be developed and enriched prior to upload on the Trinomuler Tathyajanala site and disseminate to other media, he added.

Unveiling the government's plan to turn the UDCs as mini Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Centers in future, Palak said the UDC entrepreneurs will get training on outsourcing and e-commerce site development with multiple marketing techniques so that they could be able to run UDCs as mini BPO centers.

Replying to a question, Palak said the total budget for the TTJ is Tk 6.42 crore. He said the government is going ahead to build an ICT based middle income country by 2021.
