Bangladesh government has shut down 2G network services too, thereby shutting mobile internet off completely ahead of national election.

Two days ago, authorities curbed 4G and 3G network services to limit mobile internet, what is used by more than 90 per cent users across the country.

Services were resumed until this afternoon when the 4G and 3G services were blocked again.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) rolled out the directive at 10:50pm today, several internet providers have confirmed.

A BTRC spokesperson said on condition of anonymity the move has been taken to “curb rumours” across the internet ahead of election.

Up until October, Bangladesh had 9.12 crore active internet connections. Of them, 93.63 per cent were mobile internet and 6.29 percent fixed broadband.
