The French presidency has said that France's President Emmanuel Macron has tested positive for Covid-19.

After the symptoms emerged, the 42-year-old took a test and will now be isolated for seven days, a statement from the Elysée Palace said.

Mr. Macron "is still in charge" of running the nation, said an official, and will operate remotely.

To help cope with soaring cases there, France this week placed an overnight curfew.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, there have been two million confirmed cases in the nation since the epidemic started, with more than 59,400 deaths.
