Top commanders of Turkey, the United States and Russia met in Antalya province of Turkey for discussions about Syria and Iraq, the Turkish Armed Forces said in a statement on Tuesday.

Turkish Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar, U.S. Chief of General Staff Gen Joseph Dunford and Russian Chief of General Staff Gen. Valery Gerasimov met for talks on regional security issues with Syria and Iraq top on the agenda, said the statement.

The gathering, the first such a tripartite meeting, comes amid Ankara urges both Russia and the U.S. to end cooperation with the Syrian Kurds Syrian Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its military wing People's Protection Units (YPG) for defeating the Islamic State (IS) in Syria.

The U.S. works on new offensive plans for Raqqa in Syria and Washington is eager for further cooperation with the YPG fighters for planned military operation in de facto IS capital.
