Indian police hands over 17 BD fishermen

Indian Police handed over 17 Bangladeshi fishermen who took shelter in Indian territory after their trawler went out of order, to Bangladesh police in Koikhali border of Shyamnagar upazila on Sunday.

Syed Mannan Ali, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station, the fishermen, hailing from Bagerhat and Cox’s Bazar districts took shelter in the Indian territory of Kalindi river after their fishing trawler ‘MV Zindapir’ became dysfunctional on September 27.

After completing formality, police of Namakhana Police Station in India handed them over to Shyamnagar Police Station at noon.

Lt Col Enamul Arif Sumon, commanding officer of BGB-17 battalion, major Abdullah Al Mamun, sub-commanding officer and Sujaan Sarker, assistant commissioner (land) and the OC were present from Bangladesh side and Rakesh, officer-in-charge of Namkhana along with several BSF members were present at the handed over programme.
