‘Robber’ killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police on Kushtia-Jhenidah highway in Mahishdanga area under Islamic University thana early Thursday.

The deceased could not be identified immediately.

Md Ratan Sheikh, officer-in-charge of the Islamic University Police Station, said on secret information that a gang of robber was preparing for committing robbery, a team of police conducted a drive around 3:30am.

Sensing presence of police, the robber gang opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.

After 30 minutes of gunfight, police rescued the robber as bullet injuries.

Later, the injured was rushed to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Sub-inspector Md Rashedul Islam and constable Md Ahadul Islam received injuries during the gunfight.

Police also recovered a pistol and a gun from the spot.
