Nor’westers, hailstorm likely at many places

Nor’westers and hailstorm are likely to occur in different areas of the country today, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

The nor’wester is likely to hit Dhaka, Rangpur, Rajhshahi, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Khulna divisions and in some places of Cumilla and Noakhali, the Met office said today.

Meanwhile, the depression over equatorial Indian ocean and adjoining South Bay moved northwestwards over the same area and has intensified into a deep depression.

Owing to the deep depression, maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant cautionary signal no. one (r) one.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to proceed with caution till further notice

Maximum sustained wind speed within 44 kms of the depression centre is about 40 kph rising to 50 kph in gusts/squalls. The sea will remain moderate near the depression centre.
