Safety of Eid holidaymakers: NCPSRR places 12-point recommendation

The National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads, Railways (NCPSRR) has placed 12-point recommendation to make the Eid journey safe in the highways.

In a statement issued on Monday, Hazi Mohammad Shaheed Mia, chairman of the organization and Ashish Kumar Dey, its general secretary urged the government, including all the authorities concerned to implement the recommendations placed by them.  

The recommendations include stopping movement of all kinds of vehicles without registration, fitness and route permit to check road crashes, installing required number of CCTV cameras at all bus terminals and counters and ensuring security on the highways and terminals, conducting mobile courts at highways, inter-district roads and regional roads to stop carrying passengers on bus rooftops, trucks and pick-up vans, involving all district and police administrations in conducting mobile courts across the country.

The other recommendations are: applying proper law in stopping sale of tickets in black market and charge of additional bus fares, taking necessary action in preventing reckless driving and illegal overtaking, giving power to district and police administrations in checking the driving of fake licence holders and under-aged drivers and using cell phones while driving, stopping three wheelers including auto rickshaws, easy bikes on highways and inter-district roads, ensuring movement of ferries and launches on Shimulia-Kathalbari and Paturia-Daulatdia routes, conducting weeklong mobile courts on Shimulia-Kathalbari route ahead of Eid and evicting illegal establishments along the highways and ensuring application of necessary traffic law to control severe traffic jams.
