Eid holidaymakers suffer as trains fail to maintain schedules

After collecting train tickets with too much of hassles, eid holidaymakers on Friday suffered immensely following disruption in the schedules of a number of trains, particularly of those that run on northern routes.

The homebound people had to wait for hours together at Kamalapur Railway Station since morning due to the awful delay in train movement.

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan visited the railway station in the morning and apologised for the delay of four trains on the first day of weekend ahead of the eid.

“A total of 18 trains left Dhaka till 10 am while the schedules of four trains were disrupted. I’m really sorry for this and it won’t happen from tomorrow,” he said while briefing reporters at the station.

‘Rangpur Express’ left the station seven hours behind its schedule,  Rajshahi-bound ‘Dhumketu Express’ was delayed by two hours and 15 minutes, Khulna-bound ‘Sundarban Express’ by one hour and 15 minutes  while Nilphamari–bound ‘Nilsagar Express’  by one hour  and 40 minutes, said the Minister.

Around two crore people live in the city for job and they leave the capital to celebrate Eid with their near and dear ones, said Nurul adding, “We’re trying to provide good services.”

He also said the railway stations of the country will be upgraded to international standard using modern technologies.

Advance train ticket sale for Eid began on May 22 but people suffered a lot to avail themselves of tickets through apps due to technical glitches on the first day of advance ticket sales.
