Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday suggested Dhaka residents to visit their hometowns to celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha with their families.

Calling upon the residents of the capital not to be seized by panic, Quader also urged all to remain alert about the ongoing dengue menace during Eid-ul-Azha.

He made the calls while inaugurating the cleanliness and awareness campaign of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) for the third day in the capital’s Farmgate area this morning.

Quader, also the AL general secretary, said that although the 3-day cleanliness campaign of his party has ended formally today, but his party will continue to carry out cleanliness and awareness drive against the ongoing dengue outbreak until it came to an end.

He also alleged that a vested quarter have been spreading remours so that people don’t visit their hometown on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Azha.

Criticising the call of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to declare a state of emergency to tackle the dengue situation in the country, the AL general secretary said, “They (BNP) are doing politics with dengue. Having failed in everywhere, they are demanding a state of emergency.’

He also said that those, who are already in an emergency condition, need a state of emergency.

Earlier, on Friday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir suggested the government to declare a state of emergency to tackle the dengue situation in the country.
