3 held with 2,600 mobile phones at Dhaka airport

Three people have been arrested for smuggling 2,600 pieces mobile phone sets into the country through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The member of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) detained them from the canopy area of the airport around 8:00am on Saturday.

Earlier, they arrived in the country from China by a US-Bangla Airlines flight.

The arrestees were dentified as Md Sujon, 49, from Faridpur; Shahriar Hossain Prince, 33, from Demra of Dhaka; and Md Rofiqul Islam, 27, from Mymensingh.

Confirming the news, Alamgir Hossain Shimul, additional superintendent (ops and media) of APBn said the mobile phones recovered from their baggage are worth Tk3.5 crore.

A process is underway to file a case against them in this connection, he added.
