Awami League set to elect new committee

Ruling councilors Awami League met on Saturday morning at the Institute of Engineers to elect the party's next committee for three years.

The two-day national council of the party's second day is set to begin at 10:30am.

For the ninth straight time, Sheikh Hasina will continue as the president of the party as there is no alternative to her, said party sources.

The council session will be attended by some 7,500 councilors from across the country.

The country's oldest political party's 21st triennial National Council-2019 kicked off on Friday. The two-day council was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

It is attended by some 15,000 councilors and guests. The inaugural session was also attended by members of other political parties and representatives of different professions.

Since 1981, Sheikh Hasina has been at the helm of the Awami League, established on June 23, 1949, at Rose Garden in Dhaka.
