Cumilla roof collapse kills 1, injures 14

At least one worker was killed and 14 others were injured when the roof of the third floor of a building collapsed on Friday in the Kandirpar area of the town.

The deceased was identified as Reza Ahmed hailing from Rangpur.

Witnesses said the south side of the roof of Rupayan Tower, where concrete was being laid from the morning, caved in at 5:15pm killing Reza on the spot.

Six firefighting units rushed to the spot and conducted the rescue operation with the help of locals. Ten of the injured were admitted to the Comilla Medical College Hospital while three others were sent to Cumilla Sadar Hospital.

Additional Superintendent of Police Abdullah Al Mamun, district administration and police officials supervised the rescue operation.

A four-member probe committee headed by Additional District Magistrate Pintu Bepari was formed to look into the incident.
