The High Court (HC) today asked the government to submit a progress report by May 9, on its action to form a probe committee to identify and bring the people, to justice, who had made stories of corruption over Padma Bridge Project.

"A High Court division bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah issued the rule action on its own motion," said deputy attorney general Tapas Kumar Biswas.

Earlier on February 15, the High Court had issued a rule asking the government to reply in two weeks as to why it shall not direct to form an inquiry committee or commission in this regard.

The court had asked cabinet, law, home and communication secretaries, chairman of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Inspector General of Police (IGP) reply the rule within the stipulated time.

The court also had asked the cabinet secretary to submit a report on the steps taken in line with the court's order to form the commission, within 30 days.
