The party activists hurled brick chunks at the law enforcers as the police barred their procession heading towards Kakrail, Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Paltan Police Station, told The Daily Star.

The JCD men also vandalised two vehicles during the clash, OC Rafiqul said adding “We charged batons, dispersed them and detained two of them”.

The activists of JCD, the student wing of BNP, brought out the procession protesting the death of their central leader Nurul Alam Nuru.

Nuru was found murdered on the banks of the Karnaphuli river in Raozan upazila hours after he was picked up allegedly by law enforcers from his home in the port city on Wednesday night.
