Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner M Asaduzzaman Miah on Wednesday said foolproof security measures have been arranged ahead of Ulema-Mashayekh conference marking the 42nd founding anniversary of Islamic Foundation at Suhrawardy Udyan on Thursday.

Members of different law enforcement agencies, including detectives, will be deployed in and around one square kilometer area of Suhrawardy Udyan to ensure foolproof security and ward off any untoward incident, Asaduzzaman Miah told a press conference at DMP media center, reports UNB.

A group of law enforcers will form a security layer within the Suhrawardy Udyan while another outside of it as part of the tight security arrangement.

“As the conference is arranged by the Islamic Foundation, nobody will be allowed to enter the ground without invitation card and security pass,” said Miah.

The whole ground will be brought under a CCTV surveillance system in addition to installing archways and metal detectors on its five entry points.

Members of SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) and bomb disposal units will be kept ready adjacent to the ground, while plainclothes detectives will patrol the entire area during the conference, Asaduzzaman added.

Besides, roads from Shahbagh intersection to Matsya Bhaban and to Doel Chattar will be made to off-limit to traffic from 10:30am, he said.

The DMP commissioner urged the city dwellers not to go to shopping malls, including Bashundhara City and New Market, unless there is any urgent work to avoid traffic gridlocks.

Some two lakh Muslim devotees throughout the country and the Khatibs of Masjid al-Haram and Al-Masjid an-Nabawi of Saudi Arabia will be present at the programme, said the DMP commissioner.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the programme.
