The Supreme Court today criticised the attorney general for seeking more time in issuing a gazette on the rule determining the discipline and code of conduct of lower court judges.

“Supreme Court, Gono Bhaban and Bangabhaban seem lakhs of kilometres apart. The file could not be moved about in two-and-half years!” Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha said.

The chief justice was presiding over a five-member bench of the appellate division of the Supreme Court for hearing the Mazdar Hossain case, known as judiciary separation case.

Earlier in the morning, the attorney general submitted an application to the apex court seeking two weeks’ time for adjourning hearing on the case related to the gazette on the rule.

The chief justice expressed astonishment seeing the application as the apex court had earlier given time to the government on several occasions for publishing the notification.

Annoyed, the court said “two weeks, two months and two years” are same to the attorney general.

The court ended today’s hearing session by adjourning the hearing for another week.
